The Quest Kids: Matching Adventure Review
If u haven’t started yet how do u determine the latest person to make a bet to be the starting active player
@@crystalevanisky3143 Just whoever most recently made a bet in real life. If nobody in the group has ever made a bet in their life, or if you can't figure out who did most recently, then you could probably just randomize who the first player is.
Very clear instructions. Thanks a bunch
Very nice!!👍🏻
Great video! Thanks so much for doing it.
This is really a very high-quality review, which highlights and reveals all the nuances of this game. Many thanks to the author of the channel! The game is really very rich in mechanics that go well with each other. Great respect for the author of the game for this. Unfortunately, a link to the full rules of the game is not available on the Kickstarter. If you can share a document (pdf) with the rules, I will be very grateful!
Unfortunately, I don't have a digital version of the rules, but I can send a note to the designer about uploading a pdf to BGG.
@@OldManGames That would be great! Thank you!
@@chernoshevskiy boardgamegeek.com/thread/3280272/digital-rulebook
I've never seen your videos before, but I'll be back. Very easy to understand and extremely thorough. Thanks
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words!
Can you cross a horse over the finish line using a horse ability?
Nope. The rulebook states "Horses can only pass the finish line from a dice roll or secondary movement".
Just received my Deluxe copy, and I'm looking forward to playing. Thank you for the excellent and detailed teach!
Question about scoring for fed nestlings. The video and rulebook make it seem like the fed quadrants score twice (immediately when food is placed, and again at the end of the round.) Is this true, though? Seems like it wouldn’t be. 11:57
You don't feed your nestlings until the end of the round, so no. The quadrants will only score once. It's best to just gather all your resources from each biome first. Then when all the biomes have been resolved, each player should then decide which nestling they would like to feed.
Actually, rules and the designer on BGG says you have to decide to feed nestlings or not right when you get the resource. But yeah, it makes sense to score for nestlings only at the end of the round. Not sure what I read wrong.
Thank you so much for doing this after receiving the game. All of the other videos I've found are from the time of the Kickstarter, and the game has changed just enough that they are no longer relevant.
Don't thank me. You should thank Tangerine Games. They asked me put together this video and had me wait until the game was 100% complete. They had me use one of their only pre-production copies of the game. I was sad when I had to give it back to them, but thankfully the copy I backed on KS got delivered just a few weeks later.
Loved your presentation style. I can see the effort you put into this 👍
@@BangersProject Thanks! I appreciate that! I definitely put a lot of time into it. 😊
How do you remember that if a horse has crossed the no bet line and you HAVE NOT helmeted it but then in the future you DO helmet it (for the extra $5) , how do you remember that you cannot bet on it but it is helmeted? Does that make any sense lol
Well the whole point of the helmet is to allow a player to bet on a horse after it has passed the no bet line, but obviously before it crosses the finish line. I'm fairly certain that even if a horse crosses the No Bet Line before you acquire a helmet, that doesn't stop you from betting after you have the helmet. You don't need to get the helmet first.
@@OldManGames good point! I think we were overthinking it when we played last night. Thanks for the reply
Great explanation. We're excited to play! 🚂👍
Muy bien explicado, gracias
Love everything about this video. I also force myself to fit my entire collection in 2 shelves. 1 for gateway games and another with gamers games. At all, I own roughly 120 games and I feel great about only having great games! And yes, I played them all a bunch of times!
That's great! I must admit that lately my game collection has gotten a bit out of control. But thankfully, not from me buying a bunch of new games. I had over 100 different games sent to me by various publishers about 2.5 yrs ago and I've been trying to play through them all in order to decide which ones to keep and which ones to get rid of. Quite the task when I usually only have time for about 1 game a week.
One game a week! Not a lot but I understand that learrning a new game takes longer. I'm grateful that I can play board games 10-12 hours a week. It's my stress relieving therapy!
Well done sir!
The RULE I don't get are the SPECIAL BARRIER ROOMS where it has two dimension and that Enemies cannot attack the other player in the other dimension of the Barri Room
So what if, due to secondary movement, two horses cross the finish line at the same time.?
you always go from lowest number to highest so whoever is lower crosses 1st
cool thanks @@ES-yc1tp
When I learned the game we had a house rule that when the haunt starts all your values under the green reset. I've carried this over into betrayal legacy and I've found leads to a better experience
Its precisely that the game is so unpredictable that forces you to think in different way every time you play which makes it unique. This is why discussing strategy with other survivors is important. There will never be a guideline to help you secure a win as a traitor or survivor. There are tactics, but ultimately it comes down to the decision you make every turn and nothing is more rewarding then getting good rolls, making good decisions and miraculously making a win out of a loss.
Love the mat role!
I am so excited to get this game some day!
🌷 'promo sm'
Yeah agreed. I had made someone tense because I was trying every way to undermine her as she was the traitor and telling others what to do. It was because of how it shaped our future dynamics that I realized the balance was not the point and realized the same points in the video. She was young and quick-tempered and held a grudge, but I myself could have done better.
So, I have the third edition. Please explain to me where tiles are supposed to go. Upper ground on the upper floor? Ground on the ground floor, but what about upper basement tiles? Do they go on the upper floor or only attach to the basement? It’s very vague. Thanks!
If a tile says Upper, it can go on the Upper Floor. If it says Ground, it can go on the Ground Floor. If it says Upper Ground, that means it could go on either floor. Same thing applies with the Basement tiles.
Thanks for the wonderful video Kevin!
Absolutely! I hope the campaign does well!
Miss you :)
I need to agree with this. The story is so epic. I played the game three times. And three times become the traitor. It's always a clutch, as in movies. Where the bad guys win first, it seems like the heroes are about to lose hope. The horees are desperate and need to think hard to solve the problem. suddenly a miracle happens, then the heroes win the game.
This game is really nice story fuel! I've used it as a basis for chapters in a fanfic I started.
You actually didn't explain what your title suggests
The entire video is spent explaining it. If you were assuming people are getting the rules wrong, that's not the case. It's more about the way you play than the rules you play by. By "playing correctly", you're viewing it as an experience, not as a set of rules you use to your advantage to win. The people that simply play Betrayal to win are the ones not playing it correctly. The people who truly "win" Betrayal are those that enjoy the story that is unfolding as they play, regardless of whether their character survives. Betrayal at House on the Hill, in my eyes, is 15% game and 85% story.
I’ve always love seeing this game and watching people playing is and this Christmas I got the chance to buy it. Specifically I got the 3rd edition because from the reviews I’ve seen it’s been simplified a lot and easier to understand. I can’t wait to play it with my friends.
the first time i played was today with my friend of mine over video chat and i ended up being the traitor vs the other 3 players. 2 of them died and my friend ended up clutching by beating death one away from death. As the traitor i was routing for the good team to get that win. It was amazing!
How did you play over video call? I have the game and would love to play it with some of my overseas friends
We’ve been watching game reviews for many years and yours my friend is the clearest explanation to date. Thank you keep up the great work.
Thanks! Really appreciate the kind words. =)
@@OldManGames your very welcome I like to give credit where it’s due.
Since you're an avid lover of this game. I have bought it but no one wants to play it. My question is, would you see yourself playing this game if it were in a VR senario similar to DEMEO, which is a game I personally have over 100 hours or more poured into? If you don't know of DEMEO please look into it. Even if you're not a fan of the game itself, look at the "board", mechanics, etc. and let me know. I think it would fit perfectly into it's 'scheme of play'.
I'll have to look into DEMEO. Thanks for the recommendation !
I’m confused. At 12:32, for the yellow horse, you wrote 30. Shouldn’t it have been 15 (5x3)? Was it a mistake or am I missing something?
That was a mistake. I'm just bad at math, apparently. Good catch!
@@OldManGames appreciate the response! Keep up the great work!
Fantastic & easy to digest instructions. I was having a hard time learning the game from other channels, and they have way more views. Subscribed.
Thanks, really appreciate that! Glad I could help you out. =)
Love this video. So many of my friends hesitate (or refuse) to play this game just because it's "so complicated" and it is a lot to take in the first time but the whole experience is SO SO worth it.
I completely agree. Definitely worth it!
Please someone explain to me how to DROP an omen card during your turn. You have to place an item token on that room, right? But what do you do with the omen card...? Do you put it back in the omen cards pile? Do you put it next to that room so another player can pick up that exact omen card later if they decide to pick it up?
I've always just placed the card near that room on the table.
@@OldManGames That's what I thought, but that'd be uncomfortable when there are more rooms I guess. What do you do when you drop more items tho? Do you have a "dropped item cards pile" and let the person choose which item card they'll pick up?
@@bubblemage If the map gets large and you're low on table space, it helps to slide the items partially underneath the room tile where it's located, if possible. And I've played probably 25+ games of Betrayal and I don't know if I've ever seen more than 2 dropped items at once, so it's usually not difficult to keep track of which items are in which room.
Good video. well cut. Music a bit strong
Sounds complicated. Nice video, though.
Thanks. It's really not too complicated. There's only a few things you can do each turn, so once you understand each of those things, it actually feels pretty straightforward and simple. I would highly recommend the game. It's a lot of fun!
@@OldManGames , I saw a group of 4 guys playing this at a local pub. They too said it's a lot of fun. Going to buy it, I think. Thanks again!
Reads the title; no, I never claimed to.
9/10 times when people give a generic "it's unbalanced!" complaint about a game, it turns out they weren't even playing correctly.
I'm fascinated by Kevin's hair
I was in desperate need of a haircut when I shot this video. 😂
Really nice explanation of the game! Thx!
This is my favourite horror game along with mansion of madness.
Reading the title, I thought this'd be about common mistakes interpreting the rules but all I got was a diatribe about balance not mattering. Balance matters.
Thanks for this video. You explained it realy good.
Thanks! I went through the rulebook meticulously to ensure I didn't miss anything.
How to play Betrayal correctly: choose the Legacy edition, it's incredible.
Totally agree!
I love how this is one of the most watched videos on Betrayal 👍 nice one
Thanks! It's also the most watched video on my channel. =)
Is there a hierarchy when more than one player wants to buy the same horse on the same turn?
Yes. After the Horse Movement, each player will take one action in turn order. So it'll just go clockwise around the table, starting with the active player (who rolled the dice).
